With the notable weight reduction and the striking new exterior and interior design, Porsche managed to extract an additional 15 hp from the Cayenne S's naturally aspirated 4.8-liter V-8. The introduction of a new transmission with two additional forward ratios (now an 8-speed) has significantly enhanced the driving experience. The Cayenne S accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and completes the quarter-mile in 14.1 seconds at 101 mph.

Porsche maintained the same model lineup for the second-generation Cayenne, with the base Cayenne and Cayenne S leading sales, alongside the premium Cayenne Turbo and Turbo S variants. The Cayenne GTS returned, offering the ideal blend of sportiness and enjoyment. However, the standout feature of this new generation was the world debut of the Cayenne S Hybrid, marking the introduction of the first plug-in hybrid in the premium SUV segment.
