In a significant update for the 997.2, the Carrera 4 transitioned from the old multi-plate, viscous all-wheel-drive system to the electronically controlled system from the 911 turbo. This advanced system, capable of distributing up to 100 percent of engine torque fore or aft, offers quicker reactions to traction changes without significantly adding to the Carrera 4's weight.
The refreshed 997 lineup, introduced in 2008 for the 2009 model year, featured new direct-injection engines and a design overhaul, along with the introduction of the PDK dual-clutch transmission. The Carrera 4 models received power boosts, with the 3.6ltr, flat 6 engine producing 345hp.
Visual enhancements for the Carrera 4 included new LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, and a touchscreen infotainment system. The updated Porsche Communication Management system, PCM 3.0, became standard across the 997.2 lineup, offering features such as hard disk drive navigation, XM radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and more.
Exterior changes included redesigned front bumpers with larger air intakes, bi-xenon headlamps, and LED running lights and taillights. Inside, a new 6.5-inch touchscreen display infotainment unit was installed, along with optional ventilated seats for added comfort.
