For 2009, Porsche upgraded the 997.2 Carrera 4S with the electronically controlled Porsche Traction Management system, previously exclusive to the turbo model. This advanced system can adjust torque distribution to all four wheels more rapidly than before, enhancing traction and response. The 997.2 Carrera 4S, powered by a 3.8ltr engine producing 355 horsepower, accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 185 mph.
Porsche introduced significant technological advancements for the 911 Carrera 4S models in 2009. The 3.8ltr engines now feature direct gasoline injection and are available with Porsche's new double-clutch transmission (PDK). The 3.8-liter engine in the S-models boasts 385 horsepower, surpassing 300 km/h (186 mph).
Despite the increased power, fuel consumption has been significantly reduced, with the Carrera Coupé achieving an average of just 10.3 liters/100 km with a manual gearbox. The PDK version offers even greater fuel economy, averaging just 9.8 liters/100 km.
The introduction of the PDK marks Porsche's first implementation of a double-clutch transmission in its road-going sports cars, combining the benefits of a manual gearbox with those of an automatic transmission. Additionally, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) has been refined for smoother performance, and high-performance brakes ensure superior stopping power under all conditions.
The 997.2 Carrera 4S also features Porsche Stability Management (PSM) with advanced functions, including Brake Pre-Filling and Brake Assistant, enhancing brake response and safety. Porsche's active suspension system adjusts shock absorber settings based on driving conditions, with a sport button activating a firmer setting for more dynamic handling.
