The 997 underwent a significant update in 2008 for the 2009 model year, referred to internally at Porsche as the 997 Gen II and colloquially as the 997.2 among enthusiasts. Unveiled at the Paris Auto Show in September 2008, the refreshed Porsche 911 boasted several notable changes:
Introduction of a new engine with direct fuel injection, mounted 0.4 inches (10 mm) lower in the tail section and a revised suspension system for enhanced performance.
Also added was the updated Porsche Sports Exhaust (PSE) system and the introduction of the Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) transmission, replacing the previous Tiptronic S option
Externally it gained a redesigned front bumper featuring larger air intakes, integration of the LED daytime running lights into the headlamp design, with optional dual HID projectors. The rear bumper was redesigned with a new LED tail light arrangement with a reflective stripe added between tail lights on four wheel drive models and enlarged exterior mirrors for improved visibility.
Inside has an overhauled PCM (Porsche Communication Management) system with a touch-screen interface and optional hard-drive navigation and Bluetooth connectivity.
