What This Product Does:

  • Secures the CV joint / axle / driveshaft / retainer plate to the hub, transmission, or housing — preventing axial movement or loosening.
  • Maintains the precise alignment and attachment of the driveshaft/CV assembly to ensure proper torque transfer, seat sealing, and to avoid play or imbalance.
  • Helps keep the drivetrain safe and in correct mechanical integrity — without this bolt, the driveshaft or CV joint could shift, loosen or detach under load.

Symptoms Of A Worn, Damaged, Or Missing Bolt:
  • Vibration or shuddering from the rear (or affected axle) under acceleration or at speed, due to misalignment or imbalance.
  • Unusual noises such as knocking, clunking, or metallic sounds from the driveshaft or hub area, especially under load.
  • Axial play or movement in the driveshaft or CV joint when tested — the axle may feel loose or shift in/out.
  • Leaking seals or boot damage — misalignment might cause stress on CV boots, axle seals, or hub seals, leading to tears or leaks.
  • Loose or missing bolt upon visual inspection (you might notice the head of a missing bolt or damage where the bolt should be).

Why Replacement Matters:
  • Safety & reliability: A secure driveshaft is critical to safe operation — if the bolt fails, the driveshaft/CV could detach or cause mechanical damage.
  • Maintains proper alignment & balance: Ensures no unwanted movement or imbalance that can accelerate wear or damage other components.
  • Protects other parts: Prevents stress on CV joints, hubs, wheel bearings, seals, etc.
  • Avoids cascading damage: A failing or loose bolt can lead to catastrophic failure in drivetrain components, which would be far costlier to repair.

About Driveshafts & Parts

Driveshaft is a mechanical component for transmitting torque and rotation, usually used to connect other components of a drive train that cannot be connected directly because of distance or the need to allow for relative movement between them.

As torque carriers, drive shafts are subject to torsion and shear stress, equivalent to the difference between the input torque and the load. They must therefore be strong enough to bear the stress, whilst avoiding too much additional weight as that would in turn increase their inertia.
