Ignition Switch

Disclaimer: Before fitting this CDI unit please make sure the new PERMA-TUNE coil is being fitted with it. Do not try to start the car with Blue Bosch coil made in Brazil. This will damage the Perma-Tune CDI box and void the warranty. If CDI unit was not purchased with the PERMA-TUNE coil the warranty will not be respected. Fitting with other brand coils at your own risk.
Bluetooth programmable (Bluetooth Smart Wire required part no 90506)
Brand: Perma Tune
This is an upgrade for the ignition system. Basically it puts the load of the ignition system through the box rather than the distributor. You take the existing wiring and run it through this box and the points then become an earth trigger switch for the box rather than switching the coil.
This Model is the first of a brand new product line for Perma-Tune. We have combined our accumulated knowledge of Porsche ignition over the last 48 years and applied it to the very latest electronics technology to produce a state of the art electronic ignition module that is period correct looking. Made to look like an old school electrical relay, it blends right into the engine bay of a 356 or an early 911.
NO CRIMPS, NO MESS, NO HEADACHES
Plug and play features eliminate the need for wire crimps and complicated wiring diagrams. Wires are cut and stripped, then inserted into the wire bus for a secure, plug in connection without the need for special tools or wire crimps.
Simple, four wire installation. There is no need to interpret complicated wiring diagrams, the terminals are clearly marked so you know exactly where each wire goes.
NO DIALS, NO SWITCHES, NO PROBLEMS
Installation is easy. There are no dials to turn, no switches to set and no chips to plug in. The 356906 Perma-Tune comes to you pre-programmed and ready to be installed on a 356. You can always customise the module later using your wireless device to make secure, reliable configuration changes through the built in Bluetooth connection.
STRONG, YET FORGIVING
The Perma-Tune ignition module features on board diagnostics to help you install the module. The built in strobe light can help you check your ignition timing. It also has self resetting overload protection so there are no fuses to replace.
SMART CONNECTIONS
Use any kind of distributor you have. The Points distributor connection will work with breaker points or any aftermarket distributor.
The tachometer output connection is universal and will work with the stock tachometer or aftermarket electronic tachometer, shift light and RPM switch.
Power connects to 12 Volt or 8 Volt systems. Six Volt converters are not available at this time.

Ignition Switches – Reliable Starting Power for Porsche Vehicles
The ignition switch is a vital component in your Porsche’s electrical and starting system. It’s the gateway between the driver and the vehicle’s ignition, responsible for powering essential circuits — from the starter motor and fuel pump to dashboard electronics and accessories.
At Design911, we supply a full range of genuine and high-quality ignition switches for Porsche models, including 911, Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne, Macan, and Panamera. Each switch is precision-engineered to ensuring smooth operation, reliable starting, and long-term durability.
What Does an Ignition Switch Do?
The ignition switch controls
the flow of electrical power throughout your vehicle. When the key is turned
(or the start button is pressed), the switch engages different electrical
stages:
- Accessory position: powers interior systems such as the radio or windows.
- On position: activates the engine’s control systems and dashboard electronics.
- Start position: sends power to the starter motor to crank the engine.
In modern vehicles, the ignition switch may also interface with immobiliser systems or electronic control modules for added security.
Why Do
Ignition Switches Fail?
Over time, ignition switches
can deteriorate due to wear, heat, vibration, and moisture exposure.
Common causes of failure include:
Symptoms of a failing
ignition switch include:
- The engine not cranking or starting.
- Electrical accessories failing to power on.
- The key getting stuck in the ignition.
- Flickering dashboard lights or intermittent electrical faults.
Why Replace a Faulty Ignition Switch?
A failing ignition switch can quickly escalate from an inconvenience to a breakdown or safety risk. Replacing it restores proper electrical control, ensuring your Porsche starts and runs reliably.
Benefits of
replacement include:
- Reliable engine starting and accessory power.
- Elimination of intermittent electrical faults.
- Improved safety and system reliability.
- OEM-level compatibility and performance.
