What This Product Does:

  • The switch is mounted in the hood latch area or hood hinge/lock assembly and serves to detect the position of the bonnet: closed or open. When the hood is closed properly, the switch is actuated (pressed) and sends a signal (to the vehicle’s body control module, instrument cluster, alarm system, etc).
  • Its roles include enabling or disabling warning lights (e.g., “Hood open” indicator), interfacing with the alarm/immobiliser system (to detect unauthorised opening), or controlling internal functions like interior lighting, fusebox cover, etc.
  • A correctly functioning micro-switch ensures that the vehicle knows the hood’s state, enabling proper safety, alarm and signalling behaviour.

Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
  • The instrument cluster shows a persistent “Hood open” warning when the bonnet is actually closed (false open indication).
  • The hood needs to be slammed or adjusted so that it stops the warning light — meaning the switch may not be actuating correctly when the bonnet is closed.
  • Alarm/door-lock systems behave incorrectly or trigger incorrectly due to hood-open signal malfunction (for example, alarm triggering when hood is closed).
  • Physical damage to the switch: broken housing, corroded contacts, bent actuator plunger, or the part is worn, intermittent or stuck.
  • During bonnet latch replacement, hinge repair or following an accident, the switch may have been damaged, mis-aligned or disconnected.
