Product Information
NEW steering rack, for LHD (Left Hand Drive) vehicles.
The steering rack is a vital part of steering system, converting steering wheel movement into precise control of the front wheels. Operating through a rack-and-pinion mechanism, the pinion gear on the steering column engages a toothed rack, translating rotation into lateral motion that turns the wheels. In power-assisted models, hydraulic or electric support reduces effort, delivering smooth, responsive, and accurate steering performance.

Fits:
Porsche Boxster 986 1997 - 2004
Porsche 996 1997 - 2004
Left Hand Drive Cars (like Europe)

Position on Vehicle: Front steering rack assembly (LHD), connects the steering column to the tie-rods and front suspension – replacing the full rack unit including hydraulic or manual assist elements.

Cross-Reference / Superseded Numbers: 996 347 011 11, also cross-references 99634701110 and 99634701107

Typical Fault Symptoms: Leaking power-steering fluid, torn bellows, heavy or unresponsive steering at idle, non-returning steering wheel, noise when steering, partial loss of hydraulic power.

Applications & Purpose: Ideal for vehicles where the original steering rack displays play, leakage or handling degradation. Using a new rack ensures secure fitment, proper steering geometry, fault-free assist and long-term durability.

Steering rack integrity is critical for accurate directional control, driver feedback and safe vehicle operation. Worn or leaking racks compromise the steering feel, introduce play, impair self-centering and may lead to erratic handling. Replacing with a new unit restores alignment, improves driver confidence and protects other steering components from premature wear.

When & why to replace:
•  Observable fluid leak or torn boots on the steering rack.
•  Heavy or unresponsive steering when idling or in low-speed manoeuvres.
•  Steering wheel does not return properly after turning or shows play.
•  Unusual noises when steering or juddering through front wheels.
•  During any front-end service where removal of steering rack offers convenience.
•  High-mileage vehicle or original rack still in use and nearing end of service life.
