Innovative Pro Design (IPD) was founded in 2004 by Mike "Turbo" Kirakosyan. The IPD Plenums were conceived, developed, tested, proven and manufactured in the heart of the Porsche Tuning capital, Southern California.

The IPD plenums evolved from the age old hot rod philosophy of "never leave good enough alone". The genius behind the IPD Intake Plenums is not only the patented "Y" design but also the geometry of diversion areas, optimization of bore sizes and internal surface area manipulation.

Our brand new 991 Carbon Y-Pipes are designed and engineered to deliver substantial net horsepower and torque gains across both power curves, but without the weight penalty of cast aluminum construction. These lightweight Y-Pipes are inspired and modeled after our proven 991 Turbo Y-Pipes featuring slightly larger “non-round” runners and optimized merge collector areas that dramatically improve intake air flow and overall engine performance for both stock and highly modified Turbos.

In determining the scope of change for our next generation Y pipes we considered a multitude of materials, manufacturing processes, and shapes. In the end, we determined that by using a composite, we could achieve a reduced wall thicknesses without the penalty of casting shift. The result was more cross-sectional area and therefore more air flow. But we didn’t stop there. We sought out an experienced manufacturing partner with a background in pinnacle level motorsports and insisted on using the highest quality UV stable structural pre-preg composite with an autoclave cure. Because the finish of the outside is important for hose fit and aesthetics, we built the parts with female tools. However, we didn’t want to compromise the internal geometry with typical folds and wrinkles found with a vacuum bag layup, so we invested in bladder tooling to ensure a uniform and smooth internal surface. The side benefit of this aerospace grade process and material was 75% less weight of the part which sits behind the axle center line making it an important contributor to the handling and dynamics of rear engine cars.

The superior design, materials and construction of our Carbon Y-Pipes deliver the same impressive gains of 40+ wheel HP and 50+ wheel TQ, but benefit from substantial weight reduction for Turbo clients who demand top tier level motorsport components and quality for their 991 Turbos and GT2RS’s.

The 992 Turbo engine is another modern marvel from Porsche. We were fortunate enough to have unlimited access to a 992 during our extensive development and testing program. This unrestricted time frame proved to be invaluable, allowing IPD to scrutinize every engineering and design aspect in an effort to deliver the best performing Plenum possible.

Like all previous IPD Turbo Plenums, the 992 Plenum is a product of efficiency that produces substantial HP and TQ gains through a superior and patented "Y" design that manages and delivers optimized air flow for enhanced engine performance. The Plenum has been proven to produce substantial net gains across both power bands and is guaranteed to elevate the driving experience of any Turbo.

Development started with a 1D simulation to optimize the treatment of pulse peaks in the intake tract using different pipe geometry and known engine parameters of the 992. We then graduated to optimizing 2D slices of the plenum in CFD, paying special attention to places where adverse pressure gradients that might cause separation. This allowed us to adjust curvatures on the plenum faces and build up our understanding of what was happening inside the pipe at full throttle.

After we were pleased with the 2D slices we graduated to 3D adding in all the geometry to make this a plug and play bolt-on part with optimal performance characteristics. After hundreds of geometrical and CFD iterations, we were pleased with not-only the increase in mass flow compared to the stock intake, but also the uniformity of the charge pressure and velocity across the 2 branches.

The efficiencies of the Plenum dramatically reduce initial turbo lag down low helping access the power and torque sooner, but the bulk of the power and torque gains are realized from 4000 rpm to redline, where we need and enjoy it most. The HP and TQ gains continue to increase and out-perform the factory air distributor as you climb through the revs. Peak gains of 35+ wheel HP and 35+ wheel TQ are achieved above 6000 rpm. The 992 Turbo Plenum delivers very impressive power and torque gains that will raise the performance bar of the already potent Turbo as well as raise the hairs on the back of your neck.

Ballistic acceleration and a top speed of over 200 mph places the new Turbo in a very elite class of supercars. The IPD Y-Pipe is considerably larger than the factory but not so large as to cause pressure drop within the intake tract resulting in turbo lag and reduced performance. This optimized "non-round" design with dimpled interior surface cannot be achieved with conventional round tube construction.

The Y-Pipe is a direct bolt-on engine upgrade that requires no modifications but should be perform by an experienced Porsche technician familiar with the 991 platform. Y-Pipes comes with all the required hardware necessary to complete the installation.

After a very extensive R & D program we are proud to launch the new 981 IPD 82mm Competition Plenums. We only offer "Competition" versions of the 981 Plenums which upgrades the factory 74mm throttle body with the larger 997 GT3 82mm throttle body. This combination has proven to be considerably more popular and deliver even more performance. This Competition version will work with both 3.4L "S" and 2.7L "Non-S" applications.

The 981 intake is nearly identical to the 987.2 intake. Porsche made a few upgrades with the 981, most notably being that the 981 draws outside air from both driver and passenger air intakes instead of the driver's side only as previously found with all 986, 987 and 987.2 applications. IPD has included a custom silicone hose designed to perfectly fit the larger 82mm TB and considerably improve air flow.

The new 981 Plenums also benefits from the internal dimpling effect that we are now implementing on all future Plenums. This internal dimpling allows us to control the boundary layer and maximize air flow. Just like a dimpled golf ball travels farther than a smooth golf ball. Controlled turbulent air creates less friction and "tumbles" over a given area more efficiently.

Power gains with the 981 Competition Plenum are virtually the same as with the 987.2 Competition Plenum, putting down 20 horsepower and 16 foot pounds of torque at the wheels. The bulk of the power gains from the IPD Plenum begin around 4000 rpm, continues all the way through to redline and become fully realized in the 6000 rpm range. IPD performance gains stay above both factory power curves throughout the entire rev range

The new 991.2 turbocharged Carrera Plenums are now available for new Carrera drivers looking to raise the performance bar of their 3.0L turbo engines. The Carrera Plenum is very similar to the Turbo Plenum with only minor modifications to the hardware package. No official testing has been conducted as of yet but based on past experience and customer feedback we expect power gains to be in the mid 30+ range and torque over 40. Stay tuned for dyno testing coming as soon as we get our hands on a test car.

Horsepower gains are found throughout the entire power band with the bulk of the gains being realized between the 3500-5000 RPM range. But like most Carreras, power output is controlled to meet a "performance target" that satisfies the masses and not the dedicated Porsche driving enthusiasts. The engine in the new 991 remains relatively unchanged from the previous 997.2 Carrera. The 991 Carrera continues to employs the 82mm throttle body just like the Carrera before it. This means there is no "Competition Plenum" available since the 82mm TB is still the largest TB available from Porsche.

Performance gains remain at 14+ horsepower at the wheels. As with most IPD Plenums, the bulk of the power gains are realized in the mid-range where they are most used and enjoyed. Unlike other mods, the IPD Plenums deliver net power gains across the entire rev range.

This latest Turbo is the most powerful, revolutionary and capable Porsche Turbo to ever come out of Stuttgart. This latest generation Turbo engine, titled the 9A1, delivers 520 HP (560 HP with the "S") and once again, raises the proverbial performance bar in the sports car world.

The new 991 IPD Turbo Plenum is nearly identical to the previous 997.2 Turbo Plenums. The new IPD Turbo Plenum is offered in one single 74mm version which utilizes the factory 74mm throttle body. The 991 Turbo intake manifolds are smaller than the 997.1 Turbo manifolds which is great for improved boost response and gas mileage but less than ideal for making substantial power gains. The 74mm TB provides more than adequate flow for these more restrictive intake runners eliminating the need for a larger 82mm "Competition" version.

The already explosive power of the 991 Turbo can be further increased with the new 991 Turbo IPD Intake Plenum. The patented IPD Plenum design works exceptionally well with all forced induction applications and the 991 Turbo is no exception. Power and torque increases provided by the IPD plenum are impressive and stay well above all factory power curves from launch to redline. Maximum power increases take place in the midrange where it's most needed, most critical and most enjoyed.

The 991 Turbo plenums deliver smooth and linear power with considerably quicker boost response creating a longer and more desirable power band. The Turbo plenums deliver reliable performance for both street and motorsport applications enhancing the already visceral Porsche Turbo driving experience.

The 991 Turbo requires an "adaptation" period that can be fully realized with either a series of hard pulls on the dyno or a series of spirited driving sessions, which of course IPD recommends only be performed on a closed course circuit. Installation of all Turbo Plenums is highly recommended to be performed by qualified and trained Porsche technicians.

After a very extensive R & D program we are proud to launch the new 981 IPD 82mm Competition Plenums. We only offer "Competition" versions of the 981 Plenums which upgrades the factory 74mm throttle body with the larger 997 GT3 82mm throttle body. This combination has proven to be considerably more popular and deliver even more performance. This Competition version will work with both 3.4L "S" and 2.7L "Non-S" applications.

The 981 intake is nearly identical to the 987.2 intake. Porsche made a few upgrades with the 981, most notably being that the 981 draws outside air from both driver and passenger air intakes instead of the driver's side only as previously found with all 986, 987 and 987.2 applications. IPD has included a custom silicone hose designed to perfectly fit the larger 82mm TB and considerably improve air flow.

The new 981 Plenums also benefits from the internal dimpling effect that we are now implementing on all future Plenums. This internal dimpling allows us to control the boundary layer and maximize air flow. Just like a dimpled golf ball travels farther than a smooth golf ball. Controlled turbulent air creates less friction and "tumbles" over a given area more efficiently.

Power gains with the 981 Competition Plenum are virtually the same as with the 987.2 Competition Plenum, putting down 20 horsepower and 16 foot pounds of torque at the wheels. The bulk of the power gains from the IPD Plenum begin around 4000 rpm, continues all the way through to redline and become fully realized in the 6000 rpm range. IPD performance gains stay above both factory power curves throughout the entire rev range
